The University of Rajasthan is
a teaching cum affiliating university and it is the oldest and the
largest of the State's nine universities. It came into being by an
Act of Legislature on January 8, 1947 as the University of Rajputana.
In year 1956 it was renamed as the University of Rajasthan. The
offices of the university are located at Jaipur, which is also headquarter
of the vice-chancellor.
The University has multi faculties having 34 Departments under
Faculties of Science, Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce,
Education, Fine Arts, Law and Management.
These departments and centers are conducting various postgraduate,
diploma and short term courses.
There are 5 constituent colleges under University of Rajasthan viz.
Maharaja College, Maharani College, Commerce College, Rajasthan
College and Law College. There are about 150 affiliated
colleges/institutions conducting various undergraduate & postgraduate
courses in Arts, Social Science, Science, Commerce, Law, Medicine and
Pharmaceutics, Engineering and Technology, Ayurved,Homeopathy
Education .
The University conducts examination for more than 2 Lac student every
year. It has teaching staff of around 700 and about 2500 non teaching
staff.
